Hello all you awesome canners! So, Monday in the Kitchen starts with ... Sunday in the Garden!! You know my mission is for everyone to grow their own food and preserve it. So while I advocate the Farmer's Market as your best source for organic produce, I really want you to grow your own food and preserve it.
Here at Tiger Gardens, we have two gardens. Tiger Gardens South is at our house, and Tiger Gardens North is at our community college. Tim takes care of the southern location, and I take care of the northern location. Here is a picture of our two plots at Parkland College, the Eddie Albert plots in Champaign, Illiinois:
This is so exciting, because I was afraid I was going to lose everything to heat and the lack of rain. We went out of town on Saturday, June 10th, and weren't going to be back in town until late Sunday night, so I was pleasantly surprised to come home to a saved garden -- I had indeed watered enough, and I also added Garden Lime. Everything is thriving now, and I only have one more piece left to plant -- that's in the lower left corner of this screen between the okra and the zinnias. Notice at the bottom of this pic: a whole row of 18 okra plants!
From there, we're growing everything we need to can: tomatoes, peppers, okra, zucchini, cabbage, and melons. So exciting! Tim's okra won 2nd place at the Illinois State Fair last year! And our salsas are a customer favorite.
Tiger Gardens South -- Healthy peppers and tomatoes!
